smashed marble vanity top
Our company had a telephone call with an upset customer regarding a very old vanity top. We believe it is Victorian based on the edge detail, as it was hand-done, not machine-made. The customer had accidentally dropped a large perfume bottle from a shelf above; unfortunately the object smashed the edge of the worktop, luckily the customer retained the piece. We went to the job in Harrogate. Natural marble tops really need sealing about three times a year, especially in a bathroom with water and condensation. The customer gave us the missing piece, i glued it back in, and reshaped the edge. However, from the picture, there is a vein that needs to be added to match, so we mixed some grey resin and created a false vein to make it look more natural. The piece we had was shattered, so we had to fill it with more resin to achieve a glossy shine that matched the rest. The job took us about three hours to complete, but if you look at our website and check our gallery, you will see the before-and-after results. Shaping marble is not easy; it requires many tools, including diamond hand sanders and skilled craftsmanship—there is no machine that can do what we do; it's all hand done. There are fewer skilled people doing this now; I think it's because nobody wants to learn this beautiful trade anymore.
