Worktop Alterations & Hob Cut-Outs

Replacing a hob does not always mean replacing your worktop. Granite Worktops UK Ltd assesses alterations to existing granite, quartz and Corian worktops, including enlarging a hob opening to suit a replacement appliance. Suitable alterations can be carried out at your property.

1. Send photographs and measurements
Send photographs of the whole worktop and existing opening, together with your postcode. For a replacement hob, include the make, model and manufacturer’s required cut-out dimensions. The overall hob size is not the same as the opening it needs.

2. Assess the worktop and support
We check the material, condition, existing opening, nearby joints and support underneath before agreeing the alteration. Where stone is cracked, support underneath is an important part of the repair: it helps hold the stone together and reduce movement. We assess what additional support is needed rather than simply filling the visible crack.

3. Prepare for work at your property
We discuss access, preparation and appliance removal before the visit. We work with certified gas engineers and skilled, reliable plumbers where gas or plumbing work is needed. Please tell us about any disconnection or reconnection requirements so these can be arranged. Where work will create dust, we use extraction to help control it.

4. Alter and finish the opening
Where suitable, the opening is marked out and carefully enlarged using equipment appropriate to the material. We finish the cut edges as required and check the opening against the agreed dimensions. Some alterations may require a different approach or replacement rather than further cutting.

Polishing surfaces and filling cracks
We use diamond polishing pads to repolish suitable surfaces, choosing the process to suit the material and existing finish. Specialist resins are used to fill cracks, with colour matching and finishing to help blend the repair into the surrounding worktop. The achievable result depends on the material, damage and condition of the surface. Supporting the stone underneath helps reduce movement that could affect the repaired area.
